Light painting is a really cool creative type of photography...if you know how to do it. It's a long exposure type of photography where you trace a light to create beautiful images. It's a fun night activity to do and is a talent all on its own.

So how do you do it? Well it really helps to have a tripod to steady your camera. You are going to need to set your camera in the slowest shutter speed "bulb," mode and paint with a light. Your light can be a cell phone flash, glow sticks or pen light. The more powerful light the better.

What you do is once you've got you camera set with a slow shutter click the camera and draw with a light. People often like to do things like their initials, a tree, a heart or other simple shapes. This can also be really cool with college letters. You have to remember when you paint you are going opposite of the camera, like a mirror, so letters will be backwards.

Go out, have fun, experiment! The best way to learn light painting is by doing. Get out! Have fun! Venture on! Thanks for reading.
